Database Engineer

Main Duties

• Monitoring and ensuring the day-to-day administration and maintenance of Oracle and Microsoft SQL production databases, ensuring that the databases are available
• Performing installations, upgrades and patching, backup and recovery, performance tuning, security, monitoring and configuration
• Responding to and recovering crashed databases at client sites
• Developing and reviewing database designs to ensure table normalizations are maintained, standards are met and proper constraints are in place to ensure data integrity is not compromised
• Collaborating with team members and escalating to managers and vendor support when needed regarding problems with and capabilities of clients’ databases

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or any relevant field
• Knowledge of Oracle databases with a minimum of Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) certification
• Exposure to Unix/Linux operating systems such as Oracle Solaris, IBM AIX or RedHat Linux
• Experience in Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) and Automatic Storage Management (ASM) storage areas
• Hands-on interaction with Oracle and Microsoft SQL database management systems
• Minimum of 5 years working experience in IT
